The CardioSense Trainer™ (CST) was developed over the last four years as a collaboration between CCL and with the world's leading manufacturers of non-invasive cardiovascular technology.

How It Works

The CST monitors the changes in your heart rate with a device called a pulse wave sensor. The sensor detects your heart beat at the ear and the software then calculates the changes in your heart rate and displays this as a heart rate “tachogram” or picture.

Impact on the Brain

The purpose of the CST is to teach you how to regulate your breathing pattern which determines the quality of the electrical signal that the heart sends to your brain, whether you are in chaos or coherence.

This heart signal influences many of the brain centres such as those that regulate your hormonal system, your blood pressure, your immune system, your autonomic nervous system and your mood.

The CST provides you with live feedback on the changes in your heart rate and can reveal why your brain function fluctuates over time.

Creating an Optimum
Performance State


This starts with simple rhythmic breathing exercises which are made easy by the CST’s unique ‘Breath Pacer'. Once you have learnt to generate a stable, coherent electrical signal within your heart, it is possible to use the CST Advanced software to teach yourself to control the signal generated by your lungs as well as your heart.

Controlling both signals can help you synchronise the output of both systems. This gives you even greater control over your own physiology and performance.


Control Your Breathing

There are at least nine different aspects of the breath that you can learn to control. We believe that the most important aspect to control first is the rhythm of your breathing.

The CST’s unique Breath Pacer allows you to master the rate and the rhythm of your breathing. Learning to breathe rhythmically at 6-8 breaths per minute at rest seems to be optimum.

It is not sufficient to just learn to breathe at one rhythm and speed. It is important to master several different frequencies if you want to achieve optimum performance under any circumstances.
